Matt Schaub |
The Texans (7-3), leaders of the Southern Division of the American Conference (AFC) after winning four straight wins, have overcome the low defensive end Mario Williams (the year is lost), wide receiver Andre Johnson ( would soon return) and the deep Danuel Manning (back in a few weeks).
But the decline of Schaub, a key player in the Texans' offensive scheme will be great test for the Houston team that is having his best season since joining the National Football League (NFL).
The big challenge for the Texans as a team is if they can overcome the low Schaub.
The head coach of the Texans, Gary Kubiak, said that Schaub has a "significant injury in the foot" and would not play after the team's bye week.
Although not officially meant that Schaub will be out for the remainder of the season, if confirmed you will have to undergo surgery to correct a foot injury.
Schaub aerial numbers have not been so great this year as in previous seasons, in large part because of how well the Texans are running the ball.
Schaub is not a very mobile quarterback, but is excellent pitching motion, and that's what the Texans are supported.
The backup quarterback Matt Leinart will be responsible for taking the starting job when the Texans face the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 27th of November.
No one knows what Leinart has developed under the orders of Kubiak, or how should the offensive coordinator Rick Dennison alter the game plan to fit the new quarterback.
Leinart is a lefty, which could also lead to adjustments in the directions of certain plays.
The Texans expect Johnson to return after the bye week after missing six games because of injury.
The Tennessee Titans (5-4) is the only South Division rival that would give scope to the Texans in the fight for the division title, but on Sunday they have a tough test in the match against the Atlanta Falcons .
