Quarterback Matt Barkley will return to USC for his senior season, passing the opportunity to be a possible top-10 recruits in the NFL draft next April, to pursue a national championship with the Trojans.

With the presence of USC head coach, Lane Kiffin, and his family, Barkley said Thursday that while he feels prepared for the NFL, has even more things to accomplish with the Trojans. His announcement prompted cheers at the Heritage Hall at USC.

"This team of 2012 has unfinished business, and I plan to be part of it," Barkley said. "I have firmly decided to drop the NFL Draft in 2012 to return and finish it."

Flanquaddo on your left and right by the six Heisman Trophy at USC, and behind a Christmas tree decorated in gold and wine, the quarterback thanked the hundreds present, his family and his girlfriend before making the announcement. Barkley also said he spent a "considerable time" discussing the decision with former USC athletes, professional athletes, and experts in the NFL. All "validated" his belief that he was ready to declare the draft, said Barkley.

The junior quarterback from 6 feet 2 inches tall and 220 pounds, threw for 3.528 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2011, leading the Trojans to a record of 10-2 and ranked No. 5 in Top-25 of the Associated Press poll. Barkley told Kiffin and the rest of the coaches on Wednesday evening of his decision. Kiffin introduced an ornament on the reading "One more year."
