Virginia Tech
The kicker Brendan Gibbons hit a field goal from 37 yards in the pool series to raise and guide to Michigan (13) to a dramatic 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech (17) in the traditional Sugar Bowl held in New Orleans.

The victory capped an impressive season debut for coach Brady Hoke, who led the Wolverines (11-2) back into the limelight with a BCS bowl victory.

Michigan quarterback, Denard Robinson, put the marker numbers dramatically with touchdown passes of 45 and 18 yards to Junior Hemingway.

Virginia Tech (11-3) joined Michigan twice yards (377-184), and had 22 first downs to 12 for Michigan, but were content to record four field goals by kicker Justin Myer her third.

However, Myer could not connect on his fifth attempt from 37 yards away on the first possession of overtime, after a controversial scoring play Danny Coale, who, after a panel review ended in an incomplete pass.

Robinson finished 9 of 21 for 117 yards and threw one interception. He ran 13 times for 13 yards only to add, the worst production throughout the season.

While Virginia Tech rookie quarterback, Logan Thomas, completed 19 of 28 pass attempts for 214 yards with one interception.
