Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum
Known as one of the most conservative members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, Rick Santorum (Winchester, Virginia, 1958) spent his 16 years on Capitol Hill (between 1991 and 2007) trying to outlaw abortion and homosexual unions . The center of its legislative proposals was the traditional family as an institution to which the policy must protect at all costs. That has been the cornerstone of his campaign ahead of the 2012 primary.

Such is his conservatism, after 12 years in the Senate representing the state of Pennsylvania, lost the election to Democrat Bob Casey. Pennsylvania is a moderate state where Santorum passionate tirades against the evils of liberalism gained him many enemies. True, he lost the seat in a critical year for Republicans: 2006, beginning of the wave of democratic success in the latter part of the George W. Bush.

A lawyer by training, Santorum later devoted himself to practice law as prepared two presidential primary campaigns: in 2008 and this year. The first was lost, without winning a single state. After retiring, he asked to vote for John McCain, against whom he competed. But he did, he said, because he had chosen as his running mate to the then governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, someone more along the lines of what Santorum promulgated.
